As trilogue negotiations on the GDPR Procedural Regulation approach the end, CIPL is sharing key takeaways from our recent roundtable in Brussels which brought together leading regulators and organizations for a constructive dialogue on the state of play of GDPR enforcement.
CIPL has consistently highlighted potential challenges and benefits concerning this file from the very inception of the proposal. Many of the core concerns persist.
While the proposed Regulation is a welcome step toward harmonized enforcement, our discussions underscored that:
- Procedural rules alone won’t build trust among DPAs without also addressing divergent national interpretations of the GDPR.
- The One-Stop-Shop must be preserved and strengthened, not weakened, through practical and well-defined cooperation mechanisms.
- Deadlines are needed, but they must be realistic to avoid compromising enforcement quality.
- Any final framework must reflect the realities of DPA resources to prevent a fragmented, two-speed system.
